If Libya's former dictator had treated his people better, he'd still be in power. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that out. But Quadaffi couldn't understand it.
Many other power-hungry dictators in the past of been equally foolish. Hitler hadn't defeated Great Britian in WW2, yet decided to invade Russia anyway, thus getting in over his head.
And Saddam Hussein thought he could fight of around thirty nations, including the U.S., by refusing to withdraw his troops from Kuwait. And he played games with our nuclear weapons inspectors years later.
Dictators have to be realistic when trying to obtain more power, even if they'd rather not. Just ask Quaddafi and many others like him before.
