In less than two years, on February 17, 2009, full-power over-the-air broadcast television stations in the U.S. will be required to cease analog transmissions, and convert to a digital system, to provide consumers with a clearer picture, more programming, and to free up spectrum for advanced wireless broadband services and inter-operable communications among emergency first responders. This means, you'll no longer be able to receive free over-the-air TV without purchasing a digital-to-analog converter box. Between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two $40 coupons to be used toward the purchase of two, digital-to-analog converter boxes while the initial $990 million allocated for the program is available.
